What a fantastic time to be a Human Resource Professional! With the economy improving and providing increased job opportunities, mergers and acquisitions at every turn, and the political and judicial environments impacting labor law, Human Resource Professionals are in high demand. True HR Professionals will have opportunities like never before to demonstrate their value to the CEO, the rest of the C-suite and the Board of Directors as effective business partners.

What does it mean to be a HR Professional who is a business partner? How does the HR business partner contribute? A little research has taught me there is likely more than one right answer. Some say it is membership in the executive leadership team. Others view the HR business partnership as an in-house consultant. Still another perspective is that HR business partnership is IT-based and achieved through data management and interpretation. Whatever your definition, first and foremost, we cannot forget that we are all business professionals with responsibility for the HR functions of our respective companies. The decisions we make have both far-reaching implications and impact.
